8th Grade Band earns a SUPERIOR
at SCDBA Contest Festival!!
Our 8th grade band represented ELMS in a way that everyone should be proud of.  Our students received complements in regards to their behavior while in Golden Corral and from both the contest chairman and observers while at Wingate University.  To me, these compliments are just as important as our performance; disciplined behavior (especially in public!) is always a high priority.

The 8th grade band also maintained our tradition of earning a SUPERIOR in sight-reading.  This marks our 7th consecutive year, an accomplishment very few schools can say they have achieved.  Sight-reading can be the downfall for many bands, but not for ELMS.  While sight-reading, our students must combine several skills to be successful, including music skills, study skills, reading skills and teamwork, just to name a few.  Job well done 8th grade band!!!

SUPERIOR is the highest rating an ensemble can earn.  With SUPERIOR as our final/overall rating, we received a plaque that will be engraved and hung on our band room wall...this is the 5th plaque earned in the history of our band program.  Our rating, along with everyone else who participated in the NCMEA Concert Band, Choral and Orchestra Contest Festival in the entire state of NC, will be published in the Fall publication of the NCMEA  magazine.

The 8th grade Band and I had a very enjoyable day.  A big thanks to Mr. Stamey and Mr. Meeks for all of their help and support throughout the day. With their assistance and the students’ FIRST CLASS behavior, the day went extremely smooth.

THANK YOU for all of your support.

-Kimberly Wise, Director
